Wassail

143507This is a Beckwith Family Holiday tradition! I start making it as soon as the gallons of fresh pressed cider shows up at our local apple orchard. The scent of apples, orange, lemon and cinamon that fills our house while it is cooking is so wonderful.

Ingredients
  • 4 quarts apple cider (1 Gallon)
  • 4 c orange juice
  • 1 c lemon juice
  • 24 whole cloves
  • 8 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 pinch ground ginger (or 1" hunk of fresh ginger)
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
Instructions
  1. In a slow cooker or a large pot over low heat, combine apple cider, orange juice and lemon juice. Season with cloves, ginger and nutmeg. Bring to a simmer. If using a slow cooker, allow to simmer all day. Serve hot.
