Homemade Ranch

February 27, 2015 by candicebeckwith Leave a Comment

homemade-ranch-dressing-mixMy kids will eat many raw vegetables as long as there is some Ranch dressing to dip it in! However, when trying to eat real foods, there aren’t many options out there. This is a super easy, super cheap way to make your own! The best part, you know what every ingredient is! (Unlike many of the 21 ingredients found in Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing!) It took some getting used to for the children but I love the fresh, tart taste of this recipe.

Ingredients
  • Vegenaise (or mayonaise)
  • Plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • dried parsley
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • water or milk needed to make a dressing
Instructions
  1. Determine how much you dip or dressing you are going to make.
  2. Mix equal parts mayo and yogurt
  3. Pour in a dash of the onion & garlic powders, and parsley. For a large batch about 1 tablespoon+ of each, for a small batch about 1 teaspoon+ of each. (This is solely determined on your taste)
  4. Add in salt & pepper and mix well.
  5. Up to step 4, you have made a dip, to make a dressing, simply add in a few tablespoons of water or milk and stir, add in more depending on your desired consistency.
  6. Enjoy with your favorite veggies or salad!
Notes
I combined all the dry ingredients, using about a tablespoon of each and stored it in a tupperware. Each time I wanted to make some dressing I just mixed some into the wet ingredients to taste. I imagine I could make this vegan by only using the vegenaise and coconut milk or rice milk.

F.Y.I. Here is the ingredient list for the most popular ranch dressing available: Soybean Oil, Water, Egg Yolk, Sugar, Salt, Cultured Nonfat Buttermilk, Natural Flavors (Soy), Spices. Less than 1% of Dried Garlic, Dried Onion, Vinegar, Phosphoric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Modified Food Starch, Monosodium Glutamate, Artificial Flavors, Disodium Phosphate, Sorbic Acid and Calcium Disodium EDTA as Preservatives, Disodium Inosinate and Disodium Guanylate. (Why is it OK to make food out of some of these ingredients? Can we even call it food?!?)
